using essential oils in cooking?

I need help with using essential oils in cooking. On Good Eats, the pepper episode, Alton uses Black Pepper Essential oil. I have spent hours online trying to figure out what exactly to use, since I don’t want to poison me or my guests. Some sites say that Therapeutic grade oils should be used…but advertise aromatherapy grade…but both are considered to be 100% pure. I have found some sites with organic as well. Many say not to ingest them without Doctor supervision, and others list an FDA approval list…but again, no guidance on exactly what to look for…is 100% pure good enough? Is Organic, aromatherapy grade, or Therapeutic grades important? Please help me figure this out, because I would love to explore with this theme, but do not want to go to jail for killing anyone…Thank you!
it was not infused oil, it was essential oil…I watched the show twice and printed the recipe! The FDA has a list of essential oils that are edible as well, and their are recipes online…but I need to know what grade to buy…

100% pure doesn’t mean it is safe to eat. There are poisonous plants out there. Make your own with olive oil as the oil and infuse with any flavor you want. Marshall’s has a section that has olive oil and they have garlic, hot peppers and the like in them. You can purchase them pre made or make yourself. I wouldn’t use essential oils for eating.
